TOKYO -- Oriental Land, which operates Tokyo Disney Resort, has
abandoned plans to build an indoor entertainment complex outside
Tokyo, the company announced on Tuesday.
The
complex would have offered family friendly entertainment, shopping and
dining with a Disney flavor and was due to open in 2010. Oriental Land
worked with Disney for a year on various models and locations as
businesses and local governments around the country tried to lure the
complex to their communities.
However, it has decided that bottom line risks outweigh the benefits.
The company hopes to revive the project in a different, more profitable form.
