BEIJING -- Chinese helmer Jiang Wen's "The Sun Also Rises," originally due for a Cannes' berth, will now be released Sept. 21 after receiving its premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

Jiang, who also stars in the film, appeared at a news conference in Beijing with fellow cast members Joan Chen and Jaycee on Sunday in Beijing. Zhou Yun, Jiang's partner who also features in the pic, did not attend the news conference.

The movie was originally expected to screen at this year's Cannes Film Festival, before being rejected at the last minute. The Chinese press has reported that this was because some parts of the film were "mangled during post-production."

The film had been previously set for nationwide release in June. Pic took one year to make, cost $10 million and is Jiang's third outing as helmer.
