TOKYO -- The 20th Tokyo Intl. Film Festival in October will round off 40 days of events showcasing local entertainment talent in the first Japan Intl. Contents Festival -- or CoFesta -- which was unveiled in Tokyo on Tuesday.

CoFesta is an umbrella org for 12 fests and confabs covering movies, games, animation, manga, music and broadcasting.

The first will be the Tokyo Game Show 2007, Sept. 20 to 23. It will be followed by the 2007 CESA Developers Conference, Sept. 26 to 28; DiGRA 2007 (Digital Game Research Assn.) conference, Sept. 24-28; the Japan Animation Contents Meeting (JAM), Oct. 4-7; the Asiagraph computer graphics conference Oct. 12 to 14; the Tokyo Asia Music Market, Oct. 15 to 19; the ATP Award -- TV Grand Prix ceremony, Oct. 23.

The Tokyo Intl. Film Festival (TIFF) unspools Oct. 20 to 28 concurrent with the Japan Prize international confab.

Among TIFF events held under CoFesta are the Tiffcom market from Oct. 22 to 24, the Akihabara Entertainment Festival Oct. 20-28, and the Tokyo Contents Market from Oct. 25 to 28.

The CoFesta opening ceremony will be held Sept. 19, with Joe Hisashi -- who composed theme songs for pics by Takeshi Kitano and Hayao Miyazaki -- conducting his own CoFesta theme with a 90-piece orchestra.

"For the Japanese contents business to make progress, we have to develop the overseas market," said CoFesta organizing committee member Tom Yoda. "I'm glad we have taken a big step toward that goal (with the establishment of CoFesta)."

CoFesta executive producer Yutaka Shigenobu, chairman of the TV Man Union production company, said the org intends to compress CoFesta to 16 days within three years "so that foreign visitors will be able to see everything while they are here."

Shigenobu also said that among future events being considered is an international TV drama festival, with entries from Japan, South Korea, China and elsewhere.
