HONG KONG—Veteran producer Nansun Shi and Jeffrey Chan, most recently head of
distribution for Media Asia, have joined forces to form new outfit Distribution
Workshop.
The first project for the company is working as distribution consultant to China’s J.A. Media. As its first venture into feature films J.A. Media is set to present a five-film
slate at Cannes (see separate story.) J.A. slate includes projects
helmed by Tsui Hark, Ann Hui, Stephen Fung and Stanley Kwan, who is also
consulting for the Chinese company, as well as new Taiwanese director Cheng
Hsiao-tse See separate .
Distribution Workshop is still contemplating how to move
forward, Shi said, adding that it will probably include more consulting and
acquiring films.
