BEIJING -- China’s obsession with food, combined with a good old-fashioned
conspiracy, are the subjects for “Shuang Shi Ji”, in which debutant
Chinese helmer Zhao Tianyu directs Hong Kong thesp Francis Ng.
Shooting began this week in Chongqing, a city of 28 million in
southwestern China that has successfully lured a number of major
projects in the past few months.
Francis Ng, who won kudos for his perf in “Infernal Affairs II”, plays a
gourmet torn between two women, who is poisoned. Also starring are Yu
Nan, Jiang Yiyan and Chu Yuchen.
First-time helmer Zhao Tianyu graduated from the screenwriting
department of Beijing Film Academy and has directed commercials and
music videos so far.
Screenplay was by Wang Yao, who recently co-wrote “Getting Home” with
helmer Zhang Yang, while young helmer Zhang Yibai is co-producer on the pic.
Producing the pic is indie group Megajoy Pictures and budget is just
over 10 million RMB ($1.3 million). Shooting is expected to continue
until the end of April and Megajoy will distribute the pic themselves.
Megajoy is also working on a high-definition (HD) movie, a $250,000
thriller called “Three Secret Rooms, which will be jointly helmed by Du
Peng, Jia Hao and Wang Jingjing and released through broadband websites
and digital cinemas next month.
