Lung Fong RIP

A few days ago, longtime Hong Kong character actor and action choreographer, Lung Fong, passed away from lung cancer. I don't know much about Lung Fong's biography, but he's been a familiar face in Hong Kong movies since appearing in THE DEADLY DUO in 1971. He was action director for the fun, Saturday matinee cliffhanger Angela Mao vehicle SCORCHING SUN, FIERCE WINDS, WILD FIRE in 1979 and he directed DEATH CHALLENGE in 1977 (his only directorial outing.) He often played bad guys, earning a HK Film Awards nomination for "Best New Performer" in 1990's CASINO RAIDERS and it must be weird to get a "Best New" anything nomination after being in the business for 19 years. He's probably most familiar to audiences for his relatively recent small roles in Johnnie To's THE LONGEST NITE and for playing the bad guy in the low budget 2000 Chiu Man-cheuk vehicle FIST POWER. (Here's his filmography)

Another mostly unsung hero of Hong Kong Cinema who shall be greatly missed..had the pleasure of chatting with him a few times over the years and was such a gentleman...though to more recent viewers they'll always think of him as the "bad guy" in films like "God of Gamblers'...while to the Kung Fu fans we've got films like "Rebellious Reign" where Lung Fong/Jimmy Lee played the hero..to remember him by

RIP Mater Lung

One of them faithful presences and one of those delightful presences. Saw Big Boss Of Shanghai recently which was very nice as mostly Lung Fong's impressions on me have been from 90s and onwards. RIP.

I met Jimmy Lee in summer of 1974 quite accidentally at a restaurant in Causeway Bay (Pearl) when he was with a few familiar faces such as his brother-in-law Chan-sing (an actor) Guess we were both attracted to each other. Next time was when we were at HK airport waiting to board the plane to Manila. Me and my two sisters going on vacation and him with a film crew including Chan-wai-man. When I approached him, he instantly remembered me from the restaurant. We went out and about in Manila when he didn't have to work, and after I returned to HK, he phoned me from Korea where he was after Manila. When he came back, we dated for a little while but I was so foolish then to ask myself what kind of a life I would be with a kungfu actor as I always believe a lot (good or bad) goes on in the movie world. I decided to call it quits and I knew he must be wondering why. In the following years I saw him a few times (he didn't see me) and once we bumped into each other and we talked briefly. He was waiting for his girlfriend. He then came to where I worked the next day and asked to see me for coffee. Again I turned him down. If I could turn back the clock, I would give myself the chance for a go with someone as nice as Jimmy, who was gentle, well-mannered and with the kindest heart. Never realized he achieved so much in his life, congratulations to him, he did well, very well in his short-lived life.

If someone could tell me when his funeral would be and where he would be after cremation so I can pay him my respects on my next trip to hk. JIMMY, YOU ARE FOREVER IN MY HEART.
