Maggie Cheung was in Hong Kong this past weekend and told the press that she'll be appearing in Quentin Tarantino's INGLORIOUS BASTARDS. The role is small, she'll speak French and she said "...it's a pity I wouldn't be able to star in a scene together with Brad Pitt."

Michael: ...
What's wrong with Maggie Cheung's acting? She's probably one of the best actresses in Asia.
Don't get the ego comment, either.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. I find her acting formatted, predictable and tried. Her ego exceeds her talent, perhaps this is the best way of putting it.

hmm: ...
when someone is highly regarded/rated, the tendency for even a modicum of disagreement is to swing for the other extreme: overrated, simply awful, etc. creative labor is always subjective, so it may be best to just find both merits and faults of everything. her way of stylizing expressions may not be to everyone's taste, and people have different expectations of how much "unpredictability" resembles the lifelike. all of john's complaints can be equally charged of isabelle huppert to even greater degrees, but perhaps perception of ego is the biggest determinant?
personally i'm most offended by her anorexia :D
